a considered wardrobe | seven pillars to begin your transition to a more conscious closet
less, but more.
that was my mantra heading into my capsule wardrobe journey and it is a mindset that has transitioned and trickled, most welcomed, into many other parts of my life.
perhaps the most daunting task of creating a considered capsule wardrobe was simply beginning.
one |
capsule wardrobes are about leaning into your own style. take notice of what inspires you; but don’t lose sight of what you love.
two |
nothing worth having comes easy.
Take the time to take stock of what you have. ask yourself: when is the last time i wore this? does it fit this season of my life? is it love?
three |
consider a colour scheme. patterns.
what you feel comfortable in. what your lifestyle requires.
remember and pay attention to these things.
four |
remind yourself of your why.
were you seeking simplicity?
a more earth-friendly approach to fast fashion? investing in quality over quantity?
put this on a sticky note and ground yourself there daily.
five |
a capsule wardrobe is an investment. be mindful of cost but also, consider what that cost represents.
think about the cost in relation to how many times you’ll wear it over the next months or years.
six |
if you can, support brands and companies that value transparency and an ethical approach to fashion. Do they prioritize protecting our environment? are their workers paid a fair and living wage?
seven |
remember to reuse and relove. actually, start here.
commit to repurposing, repairing, and reusing what you currently have. care for your clothing.
shop your own closet, and second hand, first.
